In this unit, we've begun discussing healthy habits and diets.
We played food bingo! I would call out food for the students to mark on their bingo card. Then, we would discuss whether or not the food was healthy. This was a great way to practice the new vocabulary and ask important questions about diet and nutrition.
We also did worksheets discussing simple statements about daily routine. We practiced reading and identifying statements like “I brush my hair,” “I brush my teeth,” and “I wash my hands.”
Finally, we played a game called Change Places If. This game was very engaging. I would ask simple questions about healthy habits and behaviors if they related with the statement then they would change places with a classmate!
It was a great way for the students to get energy out while improving listening and comprehension skills. The science teacher would help express the meaning of questions and statements so we could have a positive conversation about these healthy habits.
For instance, here are some Change Places If example questions.
Change places if you sit up straight in your chair.
Change places if you sleep 9-12 hours a night.
Change places if you eat fruits and vegetables.
